FG rescues Kizz Daniel from detention in Tanzania

Kizz Daniel was arrested by the Tanzanian police on Monday, August 8, after he boycotted a concert in the country, despite claims that he was paid

Nigerian singer and songwriter Daniel Anidugbe better known as Kizz Daniel got a reprieve after the Nigerian Government stepped in and secured his release from detention after his arrest in Tanzania on Sunday, August 7.

This was disclosed Monday night by the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa.

The ‘Buga’ crooner was arrested by the Tanzanian police on Monday, August 8, after organisers of the Summer Amplified concert he boycotted despite being paid, reported him to the security agency.

Thousands of fans of the singer who were forced to wait until 6am for his live performance turned riotous and destroyed everything within sight after the musician refused to show up.

TheNiche later learnt that the singer arrived in the East African country for the concert but refused to perform because his costumes were unavailable.

A viral video on the microblogging platform, Twitter, later surfaced, showing the moment the singer was being escorted into a Tanzanian police van.

But while reacting to a tweet last night from a fan of Kizz Daniel who was pleading for the Federal Government’s intervention in the matter, Mrs Abike said:

“KD has been released. His legal team will, however, report back to the police tomorrow (today) while he will subsequently return to Nigeria.”
