Many Injured as Thugs Attack Malami’s Convoy in Kebbi

The convoy of former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, was yesterday attacked by suspected thugs in Kebbi State.

Malami, once a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and now leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state, was reportedly on a condolence visit when the incident occurred.

Eyewitnesses said about 10 vehicles were vandalised, while several of his supporters sustained injuries.

Speaking after the attack, Malami insisted his visit to Birnin Kebbi was strictly to sympathise with families who had lost loved ones during his absence, not for political reasons.

“It’s a painful act clearly linked to politics. Some thugs came out from the APC state headquarters armed with dangerous weapons and stones, attacking and destroying our convoy. The truth is, when it comes to politics in Kebbi State, there is no retreat, no surrender,” he alleged.

But the APC’s Publicity Secretary in Kebbi, Isa Assalafy, denied the party’s involvement, describing the incident as regrettable.

“Kebbi is a peaceful state. No government that enjoys massive support from the people and is confident of victory in 2027 would want the peace of the state disrupted,” he said.

Assalafy further claimed that security personnel attached to Malami’s convoy fired shots during the confrontation, which, according to him, escalated the situation.
