‎Breaking: Nigerian Senator Okey Ezea passes away in UK‎


‎Senator Okey Ezea of Enugu North Senatorial District has diẹd in the United Kingdom, where he was receiving medical treatment.
‎His déàth has thrown Enugu State into mourning, as he was the only remaining Labour Party (LP) member representing the state in the National Assembly.
‎The late lawmaker, a prominent figure in the Nsukka area, was elected on the LP platform during the 2023 general elections.
‎Announcement of His Passing
‎The news of his déàth was confirmed on Tuesday after a popular on-air personality, Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, announced it on Facebook.
‎Ugwuanyi wrote: “Sad News. Senator Okey Ezea, representing Enugu North, is dead… Rest in Peace.”
‎The announcement triggered widespread reactions across social media, with many residents expressing shock and sadness.
‎Tributes From Political Leaders
‎Senator Orji Uzor Kalu led the tributes with a lengthy message describing Ezea as a close friend and colleague. Kalu said he received the news “with profound shock and deep sorrow”, and noted that their relationship went beyond legislative work.
‎According to him, they shared a warm personal bond strengthened by their Catholic faith. “Those quiet moments of prayer and spiritual communion remain etched in my heart,” Kalu wrote.
‎He also said the Senate had lost “a principled voice” and extended condolences to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
‎Condolences to Enugu State and Family
‎Kalu further commiserated with Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, and the people of Enugu, especially the Nsukka community.
‎He praised the late senator’s dedication to public service and commitment to the wellbeing of his constituents.
‎He also prayed for strength for the senator’s family, describing him as “a noble man whose legacy of service and faith will continue to shine”.
