Enugu Earmarks N10bn for Phase 1 of 135.4km Rail Project

The Enugu State Government says it has earmarked the sum of N10bn in the 2026 budget as the state’s equity contribution to the first phase of the 135.5km standard gauge rail it plans to build in the state.  

Enugu State Government has enmarked  N10 billion for the first phase of 135.4km standard gauge rail project, part of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah's vision for a multimodal transport system. The rail line will  connect cities in Enugu and to neighbouring states, enhancing regional connectivity and trade. Which will boost export  and economic growth.

The project is a key component in Enugu’s transportation plan, including tram, and inland services. The state has completed a feasibility study and engaging with Chinese companies and the Nigerian Railway Cooperation. 

Other Infrastructure includes:

-Enugu Air Expansion:-Plans to add additional 14 planes to Enugu Air. To reach 20 planes by 2026

-Akanu Ibiam International Airport Concession to get N10bn for equity contribution

-Car Assembly Plant underway: Assembling over 2,000 taxis for youth empowerment and police use

The 2026 budget of Renewed Momentum with N1.62 Trillion budget size prioritizes capital (80%)  expenditure and aims to drive economic growth and human development.
