JIM NWOBODO RETURNS TO FATHER’S HOUSE AT 85

History and tradition collided in Amechi-Uno, Enugu South Local Government Area, as elder statesman and former governor of old Anambra State, Jim Nwobodo, staged a powerful return to his ancestral compound in Ugwu Agba after assuming the revered title of Onyeizhi Umunna, the eldest man of his clan.

The 85-year-old political heavyweight, born on May 9, 1940, described the homecoming as a solemn obligation rather than a celebration, saying the responsibility became unavoidable following the death of his elder brother. By stepping back into his father’s house, Nwobodo signalled his readiness to lead family and clan affairs and drive grassroots development as an Oha (elder).

“I had to come home. Now that I am the eldest, it is my duty,” he said, stressing that tradition demanded presence, not convenience.

The return electrified the community, turning the quiet village into a centre of political and cultural attention. Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, led dignitaries and well-wishers to the ancestral home, where he showered glowing praise on Nwobodo, describing him as a rare leader whose influence still resonates across Enugu, Ebonyi and Anambra states.

Mbah also singled out Mrs. Pat Nwobodo for special recognition, noting that her steadfast support had sustained her husband through decades of public service.

In a remark that set tongues wagging, Nwobodo publicly acknowledged the governor’s presence and urged him to “get ready for 2027,” a statement that injected political intrigue into the cultural ceremony.

Clerics and community leaders framed the moment as historic. Rev. Fr. Dr. Kerian Onwuzu said Nwobodo’s return transformed the ancestral compound into a place of shared blessing, adding that his selfless deeds would continue to speak louder than words.

As prayers echoed through Ugwu Agba, the message was unmistakable: Jim Nwobodo’s homecoming was not a quiet retirement move, but a bold reaffirmation of authority, and tradition.
