23 Killed, 108 Injured as Police Confirm Coordinated Suicide Attacks in Maiduguri

The Borno State Police Command has confirmed that 23 people were killed and 108 others injured following multiple explosions in Maiduguri, Borno State, describing the incidents as coordinated suicide attacks.

The blasts, which occurred around 7:24 p.m. on Monday, March 16, targeted key locations including Monday Market, the gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), and the Post Office Flyover. Police spokesperson ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso said preliminary findings indicate the use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) by suspected bombers.

Security forces, including police tactical units and the military, were swiftly deployed to secure the affected areas, while the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit carried out sweep operations to prevent further threats. Emergency responders such as the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Borno State Emergency Management Agency (BOSEMA) have been evacuating victims to hospitals for treatment.
