Veteran Nollywood Actress Victoria Inyama Calls Female Circumcision ‘The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me’

Veteran Nollywood actress Victoria Inyama has sparked controversy after declaring that her experience with Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), also known as female circumcision, is the best thing that has ever happened to her.

The actress made the revelation during an Instagram Live session with popular media personality Daddy Freeze on Tuesday.

While discussing the sensitive topic of FGM, Inyama admitted that the procedure, which she underwent at the age of five, has helped her control her sexual urges.

“FGM is evil. You now have to deal with the consequences. I was circumcised because I grew up with my grandmother in the village. That’s the best thing that they did for me because it is helping me a lot,” she said.

She added: “If I say I no dey do, I no dey do. And that is the power that I have. That’s why nobody can say they’ve seen me with a man in any hotel.”

Inyama recounted the trauma of the circumcision but maintained that it has given her the discipline and self-control she values highly in her personal life.

The comments have ignited intense debate online, with many criticising her stance as it appears to endorse a practice widely condemned by health experts and human rights organisations as harmful and a violation of women’s rights.

Female genital mutilation involves the partial or total removal of external female genitalia for non-medical reasons and is known to cause severe physical and psychological complications.

Inyama, however, insisted on the personal benefit she claims to have derived from it.

The actress is known for her roles in several Nollywood films and has in the past been vocal on social issues.
