Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, was on Friday sworn in for a second term, becoming the first governor in the state’s history to secure consecutive terms in office.
Oyebanji and his deputy, Chief Monisade Afuye, took their oaths of office at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, marking the beginning of another four-year term.
The swearing-in ceremony was conducted by the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Lekan Ogunmoye.
Oyebanji took the oaths of office and allegiance at 1:40 pm before signing the documents formalising his inauguration. Afuye had earlier taken her oaths at 1:28 pm and signed the relevant documents.
The inauguration marked a significant milestone in Ekiti’s political history, as previous governors had not secured re-election for consecutive terms.
The ceremony attracted an array of political leaders, traditional rulers, party chieftains and supporters.
President Bola Tinubu was represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, while Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau also attended.
Other dignitaries included Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dele Alake; former Ekiti governors Ayodele Fayose, Segun Oni and Kayode Fayemi; and governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Hope Uzodinma of Imo and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara.
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; former APC National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande; former Ogun State Governor, Olusegun Osoba; and Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele were also among those present.
Oyebanji’s second term is expected to focus attention on the delivery of his administration’s promises and the expectations of residents following his re-election.
